Despite the fact that Seaswirl Stripers are designed and built to weather the rough seas off the Pacific Northwest coast, the company recently relocated to its sister ships’ source, the Wellcraft and Hydra-Sports plant in Sarasota, Florida. But fear not – the sharp-entry, deep-V, sheltered helm and warm, inviting cabin with a giant’s worth of headroom still make the line eminently seaworthy and a prime family-fishing-boat candidate.
The newest member, the 2901 Walkaround, comes in a multitude of power choices, from inboard to outboard and from gas to diesel sterndrive – all wrapped around a 10-year transferable warranty.
Standard fishing features include an aerated livewell with a high-speed pickup, fresh- and saltwater washdowns, coaming pads, recessed under-gunwale and four in-gunwale rod racks, transom door, twin 38-gallon fish boxes with macerators, tackle drawers, bait station, a fiberglass hardtop with yet more rod holders, and a wide side walkway to the bow with secure handholds for when you need to chase that fish forward. And you can choose loads more fishing features (like outriggers) from the options list.
Seaswirl has also considered performance and the comfort of the helmsman by the inclusion of that hardtop, hydraulic steering and optional SeaStar power assist. The Striper’s construction consists of an exceptionally thick layer of gelcoat (almost twice as thick as the competition) to resist scratches, a one-piece, foam-filled fiberglass stringer grid, overlapped glass at the keel, chines and strakes, a composite transom, and rigging tubes to allow you to easily add electronics and wiring from bow to stern.
Belowdecks you’ll find a full 6 1/2 feet of headroom, along with a porcelain marine head, a comfortable V-berth that hides copious storage, designer lighting, overhead hatch and opening portholes for ventilation, optional air conditioning (with or without 5 kW generator option), a refrigerator and an elegant ambience thanks to rich fabrics and joinery.
Certainly, Seaswirl designed this to be a family fishing boat. But the helm and companion-seating layout, luxurious interior and aft seating make it ideal for coastal cruising as well. The 2901 epitomizes the current marketing catchword – utility.
