Hard decisions on tough federal fisheries-management issues has mean plenty of negative press for NOAA Fisheries. But here’s one that’s plenty praise-worthy.
NOAA scientists purchased 800 pounds of albacore last week for measuring and sampling, leaving nearly all of the fish’s flesh untouched. But not unused, thanks to a great program started in San Diego by philanthropically minded angler Todd Bluechel (Fish. Food. Feel Good, website F3G.org that puts available fish in the hands of the hungry).
Bluechel hopes this unprecedented donation will be just the start of a great partnership that will help many more of those in need, not just in California but nationwide. You can read more in this San Diego Union Tribune story.
