Want something done right? You might do it yourself, like Pursuit Fishing Boats does with many of the components of its boats.
Pursuit offers 15 different boats across four categories — offshore, center-console, dual-console and sport center-console — 23 to 42 feet long, all powered by Yamaha outboards. Ahead of those outboards is a lot of Pursuit craftsmanship.
The company makes its own wiring harnesses, with fully tinned, color-coded copper wire, waterproof connectors, and chafing protection. Battery cables are crimped, heat-sealed and color-coded.
Upholstery and canvas components are made in-house, with quick-draining foam for cockpit seating and cushions. Sunbrella or Stamoid fabric overhead protects the boat and its occupants from the weather.
Roto-molded polyethylene fuel tanks ward off ethanol effects, and Pursuit makes its own fuel lines using pressed fittings.
A five-year hull-blister warranty backs the gelcoat. Transferable five-year hull and deck structural warranties and a two-year component warranty boost resale ease and value.
No wonder, then, that Pursuit is among the brands our survey respondents say they’d be most likely to consider when shopping for a new boat.
Pursuit S 288
The compact new Pursuit S 288 is a lean but fully equipped fishing machine, a luxury center-console designed and built to fish bigger than its platform-extended 30-foot LOA.
Four stainless-steel rod holders in gunwales augment four shotgun holders in the transom — a full complement for fishing offshore or inshore, according to our survey respondents.
The hardtop, which has a full-height, tempered-glass windshield and stands ready for options such as outriggers or a second station.
On the transom, baits swim within a lighted ocean-blue recirculating livewell with a clear lid, favored by 29 percent of our respondents. A pair of 45-gallon insulated in-floor fish boxes flank the leaning station and folding aft transom seat.
A large door provides entry to the console cabin and its handheld freshwater shower, electric head and generous storage space.
Forward is in-floor storage, and even more is within the forward seating — just what survey respondents found lacking in some previous models.
The spacious Pursuit S 288’s 24-degree deadrise helps it slice through waves.
