Their work has graced the pages of Sport Fishing over the years and has been the cover image a time or two. Now, South Africans Chris and Monique Fallows — arguably the world’s pre-eminent photographers of white sharks (as well as other large sharks, pelagic game fish and marine animals) — have provided an exclusive for Sport Fishing: a mind-numbing, jaw-dropping gallery offering a sampling of their photography.
You can read in more detail about this remarkable duo on Apex Shark Expeditions. But in brief, their home base of Cape Town happens to be the epicenter of breaching behavior in white sharks. Here, in winter (far south of the equator) huge whites cruise just off the coast in search of the abundant seals (particularly numerous around the appropriately named Seal Island).
The Fallows’ work has been seen on the Discovery Channel, BBC, National Geographic and 60 Minutes.
Although white sharks are not a legal game fish in most waters, most anglers who spend time on the oceans find them fascinating creatures. Even the sighting of one is a memorable and widely recounted experience.
